[Day 2]: Choosing a niche

Good day my friend! We are priming the pump as they say.

We are on Day 2 of Online Business For Newpreneurs

Today we are going to discuss the important topic of niches.

If you are completely new to blogging.

A niche is a specific topic you’ll write (or create other types of content) about on your blog.

Naturally, your next question. Would be Willie what should I pick as my niche?

That my friend is the million dollar question.

Often its mentioned that you should pick a niche topic based on 3 factors:

  • Are you passionate about the topic?
  • Are other people into this topic?
  • Can you make money from the said topic?

To be transparent. I went into blogging for 2 main reasons.

  1. To make money and leave my current full-time job.
  2. Help other people do the same.

If you noticed both reasons don’t touch on being passionate about the topic.

I specifically picked a topic where many people before me… have had success with.

Obviously, the choice is yours. But no matter what you decide. It needs to meet the ultimate criteria. Does it make money!

Now if you rather focus on something proven. Then you going to start an online business in a ‘hot market’.

A hot market is a topic where people are spending a lot of money in.

Top 3 hot markets right now are:

  1. Health
  2. Wealth
  3. Relationships

You don’t have to choose a niche in these main markets. But it would make your life a lot easier and more importantly profitable if you do.

Some niches that fall within these markets are:

  1. How to make money (wealth)
  2. Personal finance (wealth)
  3. Paleo or Keto diets (health)
  4. High-Intensity Interval Training (health)
  5. Dating (Relationships)
  6. Personal Development( wealth or health)
  7. Lifestyle (wealth)

Now your next question is… Willie, should I choose a sub-niche in my niche?

Well grasshopper, that is a good question. Bloggers fall into 2 camps on this very thing.

The first camp believes you should pick a general niche. Then create content on broad topics in that niche. As your audience begins to grow.

They will naturally start to dictate what topics are popular with them. As patterns start to emerge. You can start niching down to the specific topics your audience wants.

For example, if your niche is personal finance create content that can apply to a large audience. Then when you engage with your audience you can learn who gravitates to your content.

The second camp believes you should niche down immediately. And actually, niche down several levels if possible. Because its a lot easier to monetize if you do. But this is only true if you pick a proven sub-niche. Or choose one with a huge demand and not being covered.

So it goes like this main niche ——> niche down —–> sub-niche

  • For example, if your main niche is health, your sub-niche might be physical health.

Next, niche down further

  • For example, you can focus on physical health for new moms.

Then, you want to niche down again.

  • For example, you might focus on physical health for new single moms.

This is a way you can enter whats deemed a ‘saturated market’ and be able to carve yourself a piece of the massive market pie.

Ultimately, your goal is to eventually, niche-down. However, one way you niche down based on your audience wants. And the other you niche-down immediately and pursue a particular audience.

Which is better Willie? Lol

Ahh depends on the market and main niche you decide on. Sorry I couldn’t be more specific.
